EDX Examination

This part of my web site discusses the part of the EDX examination where pins are used to pick up the electrical signals from the muscles. Just as an electrocardiogram (EKG) of the heart gives information about the heart, the electromyogram (EMG) gives information about the muscles and more importantly, the nerves. The whole package of nerve and muscle is called the Motor Unit.

In the EMG section is a description of the normal functioning of these motor units.

In the DENERVATION section we consider the changes that occur when the nerve, or more commonly part of a nerve, going to a muscle is damaged.

In the REINNERVATION section we see how the body tries to repair the damage of denervation and return function to normal.

In the MYOPATHY section the effects of muscle disease on the electrical changes are set out.
